Zizo is chosen to support MK:Smart in introducing the UK’s future cities to an international audience
It’s been another great week for Zizo! We were invited along with 15 other SME’s to take part in the early stages of MK:Smart’s ‘MK Data Hub’ roll out and asked to present to a panel of Brazilian delegates who had come over to the UK to learn about future cities and understand what the UK is doing to deliver on that dream.
MK:Smart is a collaborative initiative, led by The Open University, Milton Keynes Council and BT, targeting the development of solutions to support economic growth and use of big data to manage key infrastructure networks as part of a smart city project.
The key infrastructure component for MK:Smart is the ‘MK Data Hub’, hosted at University Campus Milton Keynes (UCMK), part of the University of Bedfordshire. The MK Data Hub supports the acquisition and management of vast amounts of big data relevant to city systems from sources such as local and national open data repositories; data streams from both key infrastructure networks, energy, transport, water and other relevant sensor networks such as weather and pollution data; satellite data; and data crowd sourced from social media or through specialised apps.
As a Milton Keynes based company, we’ve been working closely with MK:Smart for some time now and were honoured to have been chosen by them to meet with the Brazilian delegation. Milton Keynes has become the leading light in the UK’s connected cities programme, taking huge strides forward in creating the connected city, not just from a technology perceptive, but also that of citizens and business engagement.
Big Data analytics and how it could be used effectively was top of the agenda for the meeting whilst there was an understanding of the benefits that could be gained from providing our approach to citizens in cities across Brazil. Although, there were notes of caution, as big data cannot always be relied solely upon to make key decisions.
At Zizo, we believe that citizen engagement will fundamentally drive innovation and therefore growth, and through the use of new technologies and approaches which enable actionable big data analytics, this growth will be sustainable and demonstrable.
And as an SME, we also feel that small businesses are best placed to deliver on these promises.
